The Arc of Union County has been my trusted advisor and a service provider for my son for 40 years. Christopher was 6 weeks old when he began receiving services from The Arc’s Early Intervention Program. The program not only served Chris but gave me the opportunity to meet and learn from other parents who became lifelong friends and resources.

Chris has been serviced by The Arc Adult Day Program since 2013 and has thrived under the guidance of the dedicated staff and his friendships with his fellow participants. During those years, he also enjoyed the various recreational and respite opportunities offered by The Arc. The Arc was there when COVID struck and offered virtual programs to engage the participants and vaccination clinics to protect them and their families.

Chris does not have any siblings and so as I approached age 70 and the realities of aging became clear, it was time to consider residential services for Chris. The Arc was there offering advice and guidance and three years ago, Chris moved into one of their 25 group homes. Since that time, Chris has become more independent and has demonstrated his ability to advocate for himself. He loves to visit home on various weekends, but he is always happy to return to The Arc.

Of course, there are always some bumps along the road of life, but I have always found the direct care staff, supervisors and management to be focused on the happiness and well-being of the individuals they serve. They invite input, listen to any concerns and work with families to ensure the health, safety and happiness of all individuals they serve. The Arc is more than a service provider for us – it is family.

Our son has been a client/participant of the Arc of Union County for quite a few years. He started with their after school program & participated in their summer camp, Camp Star. Now he is in the Adult Day program for 2 days and WFD & ES -Extended Employment program for 3 days. He also participates in a number of respite services provided by their Family Support Services. The Arc of Union County is truly a godsend.

I thought I could trust this program with my child. But they have caused more worry than relief when I found out that their staff had forgotten my son in ShopRite by himself.
I am so distraught that this happened even after I was assured that he would be left in good hands, but no. This ShopRite trip was not scheduled nor authorized by the program, so no one would have known until they left my child.
Maybe this place was good before, but now be careful if you put your son or daughter here. They DON’T HAVE QUALIFIED STAFF working here and they don’t supervise their staff either. I’m still waiting the report about the incident that happened with my son.

Spent months doing paperwork and medical tests. Finally my 22 year old non verbal autistic son was "accepted". It was our understanding it was a 30 day trial then ARC would determine if it was a good fit for him.
Their bus picked him up in the morning. Not even 3 hours later we received a call from 1 of the workers stating we had to come pick him up. She said he was running around ripping papers off the wall. Also they had a fire drill that morning ( his very 1st day there). Said he wouldn't leave the building.
Went to pick him up and the director called me later that day
Said he was displaying behaviors not listed in any of the reports and he needs 2 on 1 which they don't provide.
This was all determined based on him being there for s total of less then 3 hours. They would not give him a 2nd chance.
If I could give them no stars I would
